Which Equipment/ Products Need CE Marking Certification?

Which products need CE marking? How do I get CE certification? How do I get something CE Marking Certification approved? What is CE marking on electrical equipment?

CE Marking Certification applies to equipment, ranging from electrical products to toys and from civil explosives to medical products. Such Equipment/ Products fall under one or more Directives which determine the specific requirements that the equipment must meet to be CE Certified?

CE Marking Certification is compulsory, but only for that equipment which is covered by the scope of one or more of the New Approach Directives.

Fortunately, the process of influential whether the CE Marking Certification applies to a equipment is rather complex. The European legislator does not provide Equipment/ Products lists or nomenclatures which indicate the appropriate CE Marking Certification directives.

The CE Marking Certification applies to equipment placed in the market or put into service in the EEA, and only for certain equipment groups or Equipment/ Products aspects. Thus in order to answer the question whether an Equipment/ Products needs to be CE certified, one has to determine first in which countries the equipment is going to be placed in the market or used. Secondly, for every single directive, it must be determined whether the equipment or some of its aspects, falls within its scope.

Even if your equipment is manufactured outside the European Economic Area, you must ensure the product bears CE Marking Certification if your equipment comes under the scope of a directive requiring CE Certification. Not all products sold in the EU need to bear CE Certification.

Most of them! If the Equipment/ Products falls within the scope of at least one of the CE Certification directives and is not specifically excluded, it must be CE Certified. Because the directives cover such a large range of equipment it is not practical to write a list of all the included and excluded equipment here. However, if you follow the flowchart below you should get an understanding of the directives you need to be dealing with. Once you have identified the ones of interest.
